SUMMARY:Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:This event is linked to the Mission Ocean and focuses on sustainable blue economy. \n  \n10th ATLANTIC STAKEHOLDER PLATFORM CONFERENCE (ASPC 2023)  \nAtlantic Future: New synergies and innovations for a sustainable Ocean Economy  \n\nRegistrations OPEN \n\n\nEvent Draft Agenda (EN) \nAtlantic Project Awards 2023 \nThe ASPC event will also be available ONLINE.\n\nWe are delighted to announce that the 10th Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference (ASPC 2023) is now open for registrations! \nASPC 2023 will take place three years after the launch of the Atlantic Action Plan 2.0 – A New Approach to the Atlantic Maritime Strategy (AAP 2.0). The Conference will\, as in previous years\, provide all stakeholders of the Atlantic Community the opportunity to review the progress and achievements made so far regarding AAP 2.0 objectives and blue economy challenges in the Atlantic Sea Basin. \nThe AAP 2.0 has a strong international dimension\, also through participation in the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance\, which involves the participation of – among others – the USA\, Canada\, Brazil and South Africa. This is the starting point to strengthen cooperation across the Atlantic as “[…] pillars focus on issues that one coastal region and one single State cannot solve alone or it is more efficient to act together and deliver on challenges that matter in the daily lives of people living in the coastal areas”. \nThis year’s conference will provide the opportunity to assemble traditional stakeholders as well as new ones from different geographies to discuss future cooperation on blue economy\, investment\, innovation and sustainability. \n

SUMMARY:Start your clean up - World Coastal Clean-up Day #EUBeachCleanup
DESCRIPTION:WHAT’S THE #EUBEACHCLEANUP? \nThe #EUBeachCleanup is a campaign to raise awareness about marine pollution\, and how our habits impact our ocean. It is estimated that up to 37 million tonnes of plastic waste will reach the ocean annually by 2040. \nThe campaign consists of clean-up events organised by institutions (EU Delegations and Representations\, Europe Direct Centres\, United Nations Regional Offices\, etc.)\, NGOs\, and citizens wanting to put-up their own event. \nThe campaign is organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries\, with the European External Action Service and the United Nations. It is organised in partnership with our blue friends\, the Smurfs. \nWHEN DOES IT TAKE PLACE? \nIn 2023\, the campaign will culminate on 16 September – International Coastal Clean-up Day – but events can be organised at any time until October. \nIf most events take place on the beach\, we also encourage people living far away from the sea to organise clean-ups. \nJOINING THE WAVE \nInterested in joining the campaign? That’s easy! \nTo organise your event: \n\nRead the guidelines\nRegister your event here\nAdd the results of your event (number of attendees and amount of litter collected) here\n\nFind social media guidelines and visuals on Trello and the video on Google Drive. \nYou can also find all of this on the campaign’s website. \nAll the best\, \nThe #EUBeachCleanup Team \nContact : EU-Beach-Clean@ec.europa.eu

SUMMARY:Where the World is Heading? SIDE EVENT EMD 2023
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION\nAGENDA\nMORE INFORMATION \nOcean sustainability issues can be found in 38% of the content on the Sustainable Development Goals. This ties in with the fact that more than 3 billion people rely in various ways on the oceans for their livelihoods\, which are treated as sources of food\, employment or health benefits. The human population is growing and more people are moving to coastal areas\, which in turn leads to greater use of the oceans: more agricultural run-off\, increased tourism\, transport and energy production. Given the impacts of climate change\, growing\, coastal populations need to implement adaptation and mitigation measures in their daily and professional lives. \nSome examples of adaptation given by UNESCO are based on ecosystems (nature-based solutions and ecosystem services)\, knowledge analysis and networking (knowledge dissemination). Mitigation is defined as efforts to be resilient to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Some real adaptation and mitigation activities include the use of green energy (solar\, wind\, hydro)\, water harvesting with rooftop tanks or basement cisterns that help save freshwater treatment energy. \nDuring the conference\, co-organised with the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences\, the above-mentioned issues will be taken up for discussion and discussed from different perspectives. The main aim will be to develop a set of universal recommendations for a sustainable approach to coastal challenges and climate change\, but also to consider the potential for new smart applications. \n
